I-League club East Bengal had cancelled some of their players' contract prematurely in the last week of April. These players have approached the Football Players Association of India (FPAI) against it and are now considering an option to approach the All India Football Federation (AIFF) and are seeking compensation. On 25 April, Quess, an investment company in East Bengal, implemented the 'Force Majeure Clause' (termination of contracts ahead of time), under which all contracts have been cancelled since May 1.

FPAI official Siddharth Bhattacharya told IANS, "About 10 Indian players have asked for help from us so far. Six-seven more players are also sending us their contracts and then we will send a draft letter to Quess by the end of next week If the matter is resolved then it is fine, otherwise, we will contact AIFF. " Indian players whose contract has been cancelled prematurely include Lalrindika Ralte, Brandon Valarmadika, Abhishek Ambekar, Ashir Akhtar, Samad Ali Malik, Prakash Sarkar, Manoj Mohammed and Boithang Haokip. There was still more than a year left for these players to end their contract.

Jamie Santos Collado's contract will end in the 2020-21 season and this Spanish player can demand his full-season salary. Bhattacharya said, "We have advised foreign players to contact their respective associations. The Spanish players' union is very strong and these players can complain against the East Bengal club in the FIFA's Dispute Resolution Chamber (DRC)." " In 2018, Quess, which invested in East Bengal, said that it would step down from the club after May 31.
