NEW DELHI; India Prime Minister Narendra Modi is expected to formally inaugurate the multi-billion dollar new Parliament building by May 26, the same day when the PM  took the oath of Prime Minister's office 9 years ago in 2014.

Constructed at a cost of Rs 970 crore approximately, the forthcoming Monsoon session is likely to be held in the new building in July. The National Emblem was introduced by the Prime Minister in July 2022, and was cast onto the roof of the New Parliament Building. He conversed with the staff as well.

On May 18, Thursday, PM Modi will also debut a "virtual walkthrough" of the future museum in the British-era North and South Blocks. With 950 rooms distributed over a basement, ground floor and two more stories, the new museum will have a 1.17 lakh square metre footprint. It is intended to move historical artifacts and other extensive collections of the National Museum to the North and South Block buildings.

The feature new Indian Parliament: The triangular structure has a 64,500 square metre footprint. This brand-new sansad has four floors and can accommodate 1,224 MPs. The building has 3 main gates viz., Gyan Dwar, Karma Dwar and , Shakti Dwar.   The new Parliament building will have separate entrances for Very Important Persons,  Parliament members,  and visitors.

A regal Constitution Hall showcasing India's democratic legacy would also be included in the new Parliament building, along with a library, several committee rooms, dining places and plenty of parking.

The 3 km length between Rashtrapati Bhavan to India Gate was renamed "Kartavya Path" and officially opened by PM Modi in September of last year.

The new Parliament building will have portraits of Mahatma Gandhi, Subhas Chandra Bose, Jawaharlal Nehru,  and also of other prime ministers of the country. A portrait of polymath Kautilya  will have be featured in the building along with a model of the wheel of Konark’s Sun Temple, sources informed further.
