Prime Minister Narendra Modi  visited Singapore, where he held significant meetings with President Tharman Shanmugaratnam and former Prime Ministers Lee Hsien Loong and Goh Chok Tong.

Engaging with Former Prime Ministers

During his visit, PM Modi first met with former Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong. The leaders discussed potential collaborations in cutting-edge areas such as green energy and financial technology. On social media, PM Modi expressed his appreciation for Lee’s longstanding support for stronger India-Singapore relations. He highlighted the productive discussions they had on advancing their bilateral ties in these futuristic sectors.

The Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) noted that the meeting took place over a lunch hosted by Lee Hsien Loong. PM Modi praised Lee's role in the growth of the India-Singapore strategic partnership and looked forward to his continued guidance in enhancing bilateral relations. Both leaders reflected on the progress made towards a Comprehensive Strategic Partnership and acknowledged the opportunities for further cooperation, particularly in areas identified during the India-Singapore Ministerial Roundtable meetings.

Discussion with President Tharman Shanmugaratnam

PM Modi also met with President Tharman Shanmugaratnam, discussing ways to broaden and deepen cooperation between India and Singapore. The discussions centered on strengthening ties in advanced manufacturing and emerging technologies. PM Modi commended President Tharman’s strong support for the India-Singapore partnership and expressed anticipation for his visit to India next year.

Meeting with Emeritus Senior Minister Goh Chok Tong

Additionally, PM Modi met Emeritus Senior Minister Goh Chok Tong. The two leaders revisited Goh’s influential role in fostering the "India Fever" in Singapore and his efforts to enhance India-Singapore relations during his tenure as Prime Minister. PM Modi acknowledged Goh’s significant contributions to building a solid foundation for bilateral ties and expressed gratitude for his ongoing support. They discussed recent developments and explored new avenues to elevate their cooperation.
