SYDNEY: A migration agreement between India and Australia is strengthening their relationship and allowing for easier travel for professionals, scholars, and students. The announcement of the agreement during Prime Minister Narendra Modi's visit to Australia marked a significant advancement in the bilateral relations between the two nations.

Australia  Prime Minister Anthony  Albanese said, "Prime Minister and I are pleased to have just witnessed the exchange of the Australia-India migration and mobility partnership agreement".  Following their bilateral meeting in Sydney, Albanese and the other world leaders held a joint press conference to discuss the agreement. "This arrangement will promote the exchange of students, graduates, researchers, and businesspeople, expand our people-to-people ties, and enhance cooperation in preventing people smuggling," .

Since the Australian prime minister took office in May of last year, Modi and Albanese have spoken six times. From the Quad Leaders Summit in 2022 through the recent G7 Summit in Hiroshima, Japan, they have engaged in a variety of diplomatic discussions. Along with its current consulates in Perth, Melbourne, and Sydney, India also intends to open a new office in Brisbane.

The terms of reference for the India-Australia Hydrogen Task Force were finalised by the two countries as part of their climate change agenda. The task group is focused on green hydrogen prospects as part of its commitment to achieving energy goals and cutting emissions worldwide.

The India-Australia Hydrogen Task Force's Terms of Reference were also finalised at the meeting. The bilateral ministerial discussion will get a report on this effort, which aims to explore green hydrogen prospects. Albanese emphasised that initiatives like this task force would promote efforts to reduce emissions globally, support the industry, and help achieve energy goals. The leaders also discussed essential minerals, education, defence and security, and expressed hope about the development of a comprehensive economic deal.

During this diplomatic visit, external affairs minister S Jaishankar met with Penny Wong, his colleague from Australia. Additional meetings between Prime Minister Modi and Peter Dutton, the leader of the opposition, and Governor-General David Hurley of Australia.
