Turkey supports 'Pak', PM Modi cancels tour

New Delhi: After raising the Kashmir issue at the UN General Assembly through Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan and openly supporting Pakistan at the Financial Action Task Force (FATF) meeting via Turkey, India's PM Narendra Modi canceled his proposed Turkish tour. PM Narendra Modi is going to visit Saudi Arabia on 27-28 October to participate in a big investment conference.

PM Modi was supposed to go to Turkey from there, but now he will not go to Turkey. It is being told that India has taken this step in view of Turkey's attitude towards Pakistan. There has never been much heat in the relations between Turkey and India, but the cancellation of this visit is clear that the relations between the two countries have soured. There was an in-principle agreement on PM Narendra Modi's visit to Ankara and there were to be talks on trade and defense cooperation among other issues. The Foreign Ministry has not given any information on this visit.

Earlier on Kashmir, China was not openly exposed, but China's inclination towards Pakistan is well known. China, Turkey and Malaysia appreciated the steps taken by Pakistan to curb terrorism. India had recommended blacklisting Pakistan on the plea that it has allowed terrorist Hafiz Saeed to withdraw funds from his freeze accounts.
