NEW DELHHI: Prime Minister Narendra Modi chaired the inaugural governing board meeting of the newly established Anusandhan National Research Foundation (ANRF) on Tuesday. This foundation is designed to provide strategic direction for scientific research in India, aligning with the goals outlined in the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020. The meeting also saw the participation of Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan and other key officials.

The ANRF is set to become the apex body for overseeing and promoting research and development (R&D) across various educational and research institutions in the country. It aims to foster a strong culture of research, innovation, and development in India’s universities, colleges, research institutions, and R&D labs. By creating a centralized framework, the foundation will support and enhance the nation's research ecosystem, encouraging collaboration between academic institutions and industries.

Senior government officials, including Ajay Kumar Sood, the government's principal scientific advisor, were present at the meeting. The focus of the discussions was on setting the groundwork for how ANRF can play a pivotal role in driving India's scientific advancements and ensuring that the country remains at the forefront of global research and innovation. The foundation’s activities are expected to lead to breakthroughs in various scientific fields, contributing significantly to the nation’s development.

The establishment of the ANRF is a critical step toward implementing the NEP's vision, which emphasizes the importance of research and innovation for the overall growth of the education system in India. With its mandate to promote R&D and support cutting-edge scientific work, the ANRF is expected to transform India's approach to research in both the public and private sectors.
