India's former Army Chief General Bipin Rawat has taken over as the country's first Chief of Defense Staff (CDS). There is a possibility of increasing the strength of the army since he took office. Before taking office, he went to the National War Memorial where he paid tribute to the martyrs. Prime Minister Narendra Modi congratulated Rawat on becoming CDS. The Prime Minister described him as an excellent officer.
