PM Modi Extends Greetings to Nation on Makar Sankranti, Magh Bihu

NEW DELHI: Prime Minister Narendra Modi extended greetings to the nation as people celebrated various festivals, including Makar Sankranti and Magh Bihu, on Tuesday, January 14.

In a message shared on social media platform X, Prime Minister Modi expressed his wishes for Makar Sankranti, expecting the occasion would bring new energy and vigour to everyone’s lives. He wrote in Hindi which reads - Many best wishes to all Indians on Makar Sankranti. May this holy festival be dedicated to the Uttarayan Sun, and  bring new energy into your life.

Makarsankranti also coincides with the event of Uttarayan, which marks the sun's transition from the South-North hemisphere. This shift, deeply rooted in Hindu cosmology, signifies an auspicious period as per ancient Vedic traditions. On this occasion, PM Modi shared another message on X, saying  - Have a wonderful Uttarayan! May these festivals bring joy and happiness in all's lives.

The vibrant festival of Magh Bihu or Bhogali Bihu, is being observed in Assam. This cherished harvest festival signifies the end of the harvesting season and the beginning of a new year. It reflects the happiness of abundance and a strong sense of togetherness within the community. Wishing the people of Assam, prime Minister Modi wrote. We celebrate the Bihu in abundance of nature, the joy of harvest, and the spirit of unity. May this festival further the spirit of happiness and togetherness."

The celebrations of Makar Sankranti also align with the festival of MahaKumbh, which commenced on January 13 with the Pavitra Snan.  And on today (January 14), devotees gathered at the Triveni Sangam in Prayagraj to take AmritSnan, a holy dip at the confluence of the Ganga, Yamuna, and the mythical Saraswati rivers.

U.P. Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath also extended his greetings on this auspicious festival. In a post on X, CM Yogi Adityanath wrote, "This is the living form of our eternal culture and faith. On the auspicious occasion of the great festival  Makar Sankranti... Congratulations to all the devotees who earned virtue by taking the first Amrit Snan at the Triveni Sangam in Mahakumbh-2025, Prayagraj!

The festivities reflect the cultural richness and spiritual significance of India, uniting people in joy and gratitude.
