New Delhi: The Central government is continuously taking better steps for small businesses. In this connection, Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday assured the Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSME) sector that the government is ready to take necessary steps to encourage small entrepreneurs. He is also playing an important role in the entrepreneur government's 'Self-Reliant India Initiative.'

Addressing the 'Udyami Bharat' programme, PM Modi also asked the small entrepreneurs to register on the government's procurement platform GEM (Government e-Marketplace) website for the supply of goods to the government. He also said "MSME is essential for a self-reliant India. The MSME sector has played a big role in shaping a self-reliant India in the last 8 years.''

PM Modi said, "I want one crore new registrations to be made on the GeM portal next week. He said the government has increased the budget by more than 650 per cent in the last eight years to strengthen the MSME sector. He said "If any industry wants to move forward, expand, then the government is not only supporting it but also bringing about necessary changes in policies.'' Prime Minister Modi also said that the business of khadi and village industries has crossed 1 lakh crore for the first time, and khadi sales have increased four times in the last 8 years. Earlier, Modi launched a Rs 6,000-crore scheme 'Ramp' (Raging and Accelerating MSME Performance) to enhance and accelerate the performance of MSMEs. He also launched a scheme of 'Capacity Building of First Time Exporting MSME Exporters (CFTE)' to encourage the export of goods and services.
