New Delhi: PM Modi is likely to announce a major package for Jammu and Kashmir. After ending his successful overseas tour, the PM has now become active on the domestic front. The PM is likely to take a major decision on a major package for the state at a cabinet meeting on Wednesday. The Aadhaar scheme will be implemented to provide financial benefits directly to the people and the infrastructure development plan for the implementation of central law in the state. Sources said, the Centre is working on a special package in Jammu and Kashmir, which includes a multi-crore investment plan.
Last week, Law Minister Ravi Shankar Prasad spoke to senior officials of key ministries. Based on the proposals made by the Ministries, the package assessment is almost complete. 106 central laws will come into effect from October 31 in the state. During this period, both the Central and State laws will remain in force till 30th of this month.
According to sources, the proposal will be sent to the Union Cabinet before the public announcement. The Centre had on August 5 abolished Section 370, which gave special state status to the state. It then divided Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh into two centrally-divided regions. While the Centre's decision is being welcomed in Jammu and Ladakh, there is tension in the Valley. The Supreme Court is also scheduled to hear the matter today.
