NEW DELHI: On his way back from the second India-Nordic Summit in Copenhagen, Prime Minister Narendra Modi stopped in France on Wednesday. Prime Minister Modi and French President Emmanuel Macron met in Paris on a one-on-one basis and at the delegation-level to discuss a wide range of subjects, including the situation in Ukraine and Afghanistan.

The two leaders discussed a wide range of bilateral issues, including defence cooperation, space collaboration, the blue economy, civil nuclear cooperation, and people-to-people ties. The two leaders also discussed how to work together to make the India-France Strategic Partnership a force for global good by taking stock of regional and global security outlooks.

The visit of the Prime Minister to France "demonstrated the deep affection and goodwill that exists not only between the two countries, but also between the two leaders." Prime Minister Modi has also extended an invitation to President Macron to visit India as soon as possible.
During the meeting, France reiterated its unequivocal rejection of Russian forces' unlawful and unjustified aggression against Ukraine.

India and France have voiced grave worry about Ukraine's continued conflict and humanitarian crises. They "unequivocally" condemned civilian casualties in Ukraine and demanded an immediate halt to hostilities so that parties can engage in conversation and diplomacy to put a stop to the people's suffering. Both countries emphasised the importance of upholding the UN Charter, international law, and states' sovereignty and territorial integrity.
The two leaders reviewed the situation in Ukraine's regional and global ramifications and decided to further coordinate on the subject.
