PM Modi Pays Tribute at 'Tomb of the Unknown Soldier' in Russia

Moscow, Prime Minister Narendra Modi, during his two-day visit to Russia, paid homage at the 'Tomb of the Unknown Soldier' in Moscow on Tuesday. Modi, in Russia for the 22nd India-Russia annual summit with President Vladimir Putin, laid a wreath at the Tomb.

"Respect to the brave! PM @narendramodi laid a wreath at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier in Moscow, honoring courage, sacrifice, and unwavering human spirit," stated External Affairs Ministry spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal on 'X'.

This visit marks Modi's first trip since Russia's invasion of Ukraine began.

The 'Tomb of the Unknown Soldier' serves as a war memorial located at the Kremlin Wall in Moscow. It features a monument made of dark red porphyry adorned with a bronze sculpture of a laurel branch and a soldier's helmet placed on a banner.

The memorial is dedicated to the Soviet soldiers who lost their lives during World War II.

Earlier in the day, Prime Minister Modi addressed the Indian diaspora in Russia, highlighting India's transformation and the aspirations of its 1.4 billion citizens towards realizing a developed India ('Viksit Bharat').

Modi emphasized his determination to overcome challenges, expressing confidence that India will lead global progress in the years ahead.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi, alongside Russian President Vladimir Putin and Deputy PM Denis Manturov, visited the ATOM pavilion at the VDNKh Exhibition Centre in Moscow following their recent meeting.

During his address to the Indian diaspora earlier today, Modi hailed Russia as an "all-weather friend" and lauded President Putin for bolstering bilateral relations over the past two decades. "Our relationship is built on a foundation of trust and mutual respect," Modi affirmed, highlighting the enduring strength of India-Russia ties despite global challenges, including Western efforts to isolate Russia over the Ukraine conflict.

Modi's speech subtly critiqued the established global order centered on influence. "Today's world needs convergence, not influence, and India, with its rich tradition of embracing convergences, is uniquely positioned to advocate for this," he asserted. Modi underscored India's evolving role as a stabilizing force in a multipolar global landscape, noting, "When India speaks for peace, dialogue, and diplomacy, the world pays attention."
