New Delhi:  Paying tribute to Birsa Munda on his birth anniversary, India Prime Minister Narendra Modi today recalled his role in providing the liberation movement a decisive edge and working to safeguard the rights of the tribal society.

"I view it as good fortune for my government that it was given the opportunity to proclaim Janjatiya Gaurav Diwas on November 15, which is also Birsa Munda's birthday. He was the leader of our spiritual and cultural vitality in addition to being the hero of our political independence "In his message on the occasion, PM Modi said.

As part of Janjatiya Gaurav Diwas, the legendary tribal leader Birsa Munda's birth day is commemorated. Birsa staged an uprising against the British.

Calling Birsa Munda Birsa Munda  "great son of the country", the Prime Minister said, 'Today, the entire nation is celebrating the birth anniversary of Bhagwan Birsa Munda with love and reverence,'  I respectfully bowed before Bhagwan Birsa Munda, the nation's greatest revolutionary and revolutionary son."

On November 15, 1875, Birsa Munda, a member of the Munda tribe, was born.He led an Indian tribal religious Millenarian movement in the tribal area of present-day Bihar and Jharkhand during the British occupation in the late 19th century.

Jharkhand Foundation Day falls on the same day as Birsa Munda's birthday.
