He became the first PM of India on 15th August 1947 after the independence of the country. Children's Day was celebrated in India on 20th November before 1964 (Nehru's death), but after his death, it was decided to celebrate Children's Day on his birthday on 14 November. June 1 is celebrated as Children's Day in many countries. Some countries celebrate Children's Day on November 20 according to the declaration of the United Nations.

Nehru moved to England at the age of 15 and after a two-year stay at Harrow took admission at Cambridge University, from where he obtained a bachelor's degree in natural science. After returning to India in 1912, he joined politics directly. In 1912, he attended the Bankipur Conference as a representative and became secretary of the Home Rule League of Allahabad in 1919.
