NEW DELHI: On the 116th death anniversary of Bhagat Singh, Prime Minister Narendra Modi paid heartfelt tribute to this revered freedom fighter. Modi emphasized that Bhagat Singh remains an eternal symbol of India's unwavering struggle for justice and freedom. In a solemn message, the Prime Minister expressed:

"We commemorate the birth anniversary of Shaheed Bhagat Singh today. His profound sacrifice and unyielding commitment to India's freedom cause continue to ignite the spirits of generations. A beacon of courage, he forever symbolizes India's relentless pursuit of justice and liberty."

Amit Shah, the Union Home Minister, also honored the Indian revolutionary and stressed that Bhagat Singh's patriotism and ideals would perpetually inspire a spirit of national service. Shah remarked:

"Bhagat Singh ji, with his patriotic fervor, played a pivotal role in challenging foreign rule, while also working to unite a divided India in the fight for freedom. Bhagat Singh ji's supreme sacrifice for our nation's freedom amplified the call for independence across India. His patriotism and ideals will keep kindling the flame of national service for generations to come."

Bhagat Singh, born on September 27, 1907, hailed from a Punjabi Sikh family in the village of Banga, situated in the Lyallpur district of Punjab during British India, which is now part of Pakistan. His historical legacy includes his involvement in the accidental killing of a junior British police officer, a response to the death of an Indian nationalist. Subsequently, Bhagat Singh engaged in symbolic acts, such as the bombing of the Central Legislative Assembly in Delhi and a hunger strike in prison. These actions catapulted him to fame in the Punjab region and, after his execution at the tender age of 23, solidified his status as a martyr and folk hero in Northern India.
