NEW DELHI: Prime Minister Narendra Modi, in a momentous address to Members of Parliament, unveiled a vision of embarking on a promising journey into the future as the parliamentary proceedings prepare to relocate to a new edifice. Speaking within the hallowed halls of the present Parliament building, he proclaimed, "Today, we stand on the cusp of ushering in a new era as we transition to our new legislative abode, akin to invoking the blessings of Lord Ganesha."

During this address, PM Modi put forth a thought-provoking proposal: the former Parliament building should be rechristened as 'Samvidhan Sadan,' signifying the 'Constitution House' in the times to come. He articulated, "I present a suggestion. As we prepare to vacate this cherished space for the new Parliament, we must ensure that its sanctity and reverence remain undiminished. This place must transcend the mere label of the old Parliament building. Hence, I humbly request that you consider renaming it 'Samvidhan Sadan.'"

This proposition unfolded during a special five-day session of the Parliament, dedicated to reflecting upon the legislative institution's 75-year journey. The transition to the new Parliament building was to occur on the auspicious occasion of 'Ganesh Chaturthi.'

On the preceding day, Prime Minister Modi bade a heartfelt farewell to the old Parliament building while addressing members in the Lok Sabha. In a poignant tribute, he conveyed optimism and confidence as the MPs prepare to step into the new Parliament building, paying homage to every brick of the historic structure. He acknowledged that despite being erected during the era of foreign rule, the edifice was a testament to the sweat, toil, and financial contributions of the Indian populace.

Prime Minister Modi's notable quotes from the event included:

"Today, we stand on the cusp of ushering in a new era as we transition to the new Parliament building."

"Our move to the new Parliament building reaffirms our commitment to a prosperous India and our unwavering determination to achieve it."

"The historic transfer of power in 1947, orchestrated by the British, took place within these very walls; our Central Hall bears witness to that momentous occasion."

"Over the years, Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha have enacted over 4,000 laws. Joint sessions, when necessary, have paved the way for strategic legislation. It is this Parliament that has enabled us to rectify our errors, exemplified by the legislation against triple talaq."

"The Central Hall of Parliament continues to inspire us to fulfill our duties, for it was within these walls that our Constitution was conceived."
