NEW DELHI: India agreed to support Bhutan's upcoming 13th five-year plan on Tuesday, Aporil 4, and also pledged to provide an additional standby credit facility.
In an update on the meeting between Prime Minister Narendra Modi and visiting Bhutanese King Jigme Khesar Namgyel Wangchuk earlier in the day, Foreign Secretary Vinay Kwatra stated that it was decided that India would increase its support for Bhutan's impending 13th five-year plan.
"India would make efforts to provide a second standby credit facility. We shall seek to develop long-term, viable arrangements for Bhutan's export of agricultural products. Also, strive to create long-term bilateral agreements for the supply assurance of essential commodities like coal and oil "Kwatra said.
The foreign secretary added that the prime minister emphasised his commitment to continuing assistance for socioeconomic changes in Bhutan during his meeting with the country's monarch.
"Bhutan's King Jigme Khesar Namgyel Wangchuck is currently in India on a formal visit. His current visit was planned for a long time and advances the numerous exchanges between India and Bhutan "Kwatra added.
