New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi is set to visit Drass in Ladakh on July 26 to celebrate the 25th anniversary of Kargil Vijay Diwas. This visit will mark a significant milestone in honoring the bravery and sacrifices of Indian soldiers during the Kargil War.
On Sunday, Lieutenant Governor of Ladakh, Brigadier (Retd) B.D. Mishra, convened a meeting at the Secretariat to review the preparations for the Prime Minister's visit. The meeting aimed to ensure that all arrangements for the PM's visit to the Kargil War Memorial in Drass are completed efficiently.
According to a post from the Office of the Lt. Governor on social media platform X, “Lt Governor Brig (Dr) BD Mishra (Retd) held a meeting to discuss the arrangements for Prime Minister Narendra Modi's visit to the Kargil War Memorial in Drass.” The Lt. Governor emphasized the need for timely completion of all preparations.
LG Mishra also instructed officials to finalize the arrangements for the PM's reception at the Drass Brigade Helipad. Additionally, he plans to visit the Kargil War Memorial on July 24, 2024, to oversee the preparations for the upcoming event.
In 2022, PM Modi celebrated Diwali in Kargil, where he laid a wreath at the Kargil War Memorial, honoring the soldiers who lost their lives during the 1999 conflict.
Kargil Vijay Diwas, observed annually on July 26, commemorates India's victory in Operation Vijay, which concluded the Kargil War with Pakistan in 1999. During this conflict, Indian forces successfully recaptured strategic positions in Jammu and Kashmir that had been occupied by Pakistani soldiers and militants.
The day pays tribute to the soldiers' valor and sacrifices, celebrating the resilience and dedication of the Indian armed forces. This year’s 25th anniversary of Kargil Vijay Diwas will be marked with widespread celebrations across India.
