NEW DELHI: On the auspicious date of September 17, 2023, at 11 AM, on his birthday, Prime Minister Narendra Modi will inaugurate Phase 1 of the remarkable 'Yashobhoomi' Convention and Expo Centre, a crucial component of the India International Convention and Expo Centre (IICC) situated in Dwarka, New Delhi. Simultaneously, he will unveil the extension of the Delhi Airport Metro Express line, which will now connect Dwarka Sector 21 to the newly established 'Yashobhoomi Dwarka Sector 25' station. This visionary undertaking aligns perfectly with the Prime Minister's steadfast commitment to fostering world-class infrastructure for hosting conferences, conventions, and exhibitions, thus augmenting India's standing in this domain.

As revealed by an official statement from the Press Information Bureau, 'Yashobhoomi' spans an extensive project area exceeding a staggering 8.9 lakh square meters, boasting a total built-up area that surpasses 1.8 lakh square meters. Remarkably, it now ranks among the largest MICE (Meetings, Incentives, Conferences, and Exhibitions) venues on a global scale. The realization of this grand facility required an approximate investment of Rs. 5400 crore and features an array of impressive amenities, including a Convention Centre, numerous expansive exhibition halls, and state-of-the-art facilities of various kinds.

The Convention Center, spreading over a vast expanse of 73 thousand square meters, encompasses 15 convention rooms, which include the Main Auditorium, the opulent Grand Ballroom, and 13 versatile meeting rooms capable of accommodating up to 11,000 delegates. A standout feature is the Convention Center's massive LED media facade, the largest of its kind in the nation. Within the Convention Center, the Plenary Hall can comfortably seat around 6,000 attendees. Notably, it is equipped with an innovative automated seating system that offers flexibility for configuring flat or tiered seating arrangements. Wooden floors and acoustic wall panels enhance the visitor experience to world-class standards. Furthermore, the Grand Ballroom, distinguished by its unique petal ceiling, can host approximately 2,500 guests and includes an extended open area that can accommodate up to 500 attendees. Additionally, the facility houses 13 meeting rooms spread across eight floors, designed to cater to meetings of varying scales.

'Yashobhoomi' proudly boasts one of the world's most expansive exhibition halls, covering a whopping 1.07 lakh square meters. These colossal exhibition spaces are poised to host exhibitions, trade fairs, and business events on a grand scale, seamlessly connected to a grand foyer area. The foyer itself features a striking copper ceiling designed to filter natural light through skylights, creating an inviting and uplifting ambiance. Visitors to the foyer will find an array of support facilities, including media rooms, VVIP lounges, cloakroom services, a visitor information center, ticketing services, and much more.

The architectural design of 'Yashobhoomi' exquisitely integrates its public circulation areas with the convention center's outdoor spaces. Drawing inspiration from rich Indian culture, these spaces feature terrazzo floors adorned with brass inlays, reminiscent of intricate rangoli patterns. Suspended sound-absorbent metal cylinders and illuminated patterned walls contribute to a harmonious and culturally inspired environment.

Moreover, 'Yashobhoomi' Convention Centre stands as a testament to sustainability, incorporating cutting-edge features such as a state-of-the-art wastewater treatment system, facilitating 100% wastewater reuse, provisions for rainwater harvesting, and a prestigious Platinum certification from CII's Indian Green Building Council (IGBC) for its eco-friendly campus. The facility places paramount importance on visitor safety through advanced security measures. Additionally, the underground parking facility can accommodate over 3,000 vehicles and provides more than 100 electric charging points to promote sustainable transportation.

The inauguration of the 'Yashobhoomi' Convention Centre will also mark the integration of the Delhi Airport Metro Express line with the unveiling of the 'Yashobhoomi Dwarka Sector 25' metro station. This new station features three subways: one spanning 735 meters to seamlessly link the station with the exhibition halls, convention center, and Central Arena; another connecting entry and exit points along Dwarka Expressway; and a third tunnel connecting the Metro station to the future Exhibition halls' foyer at 'Yashobhoomi.' Furthermore, Delhi Metro will enhance the operational speed of Metro trains on the Airport Express Line from 90 to 120 km/hr, significantly reducing travel time. The total journey from 'New Delhi' to 'Yashobhoomi Dwarka Sector 25' will now take approximately 21 minutes, enhancing accessibility and convenience for all.
