New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi today launched the second phase of the Swachh Bharat Mission-Urban (SBM-U) and the Atal Renewal and Urban Transformation Mission (AMRUT). Meanwhile, PM Modi said, "Our aim is to make cities garbage free. Our sweepers are truly the heroes of this campaign, they have completed their work even during the Corona period.'' At the same time, he said, "Under the Swachh Bharat Mission-Urban (SBM-U) scheme, work will be done to strengthen waste management in 500 cities of the country, improve drinking water facilities. The country has completed the first phase of the Swachh Bharat Mission by constructing toilets across the country and conducting cleanliness drives, now our goal is to make cities garbage free.''

He further said, "In 2014, the countrymen resolved to make India open defecation free ODF. With the construction of more than 10 crore toilets, the countrymen fulfilled this resolution. Now the goal of 'Swachh Bharat Mission-Urban 2.0' is to make garbage-free cities, completely free cities from garbage dumps.'' At the same time, he said, "The country's goal in the next phase of Mission Amrit is to increase sewage and septic management, Water secure cities our cities to ensure that no dirty drains fall anywhere in our rivers.''

He further said, "I am very happy that our present generation has taken the initiative to strengthen the Cleanliness Campaign. Toffee wrappers are no longer thrown to the ground but kept in pockets. Small children now interrupt elders not to do dirt. We have to remember that cleanliness is not the work of one day, one fortnight, one year or some people. Cleanliness is a mega campaign of everyone, every day, every fortnight, every year, from generation to generation. Cleanliness is a lifestyle, cleanliness is life mantra.''
