New Delhi: On Friday, 6 years of Modi government's much talked Prime Minister Jan Dhan Yojana has been completed. After coming to power, PM Modi started this scheme, which was aimed at opening people's bank accounts with zero balance. Today, when its six years were completed, PM Modi tweeted and congratulated the people and shared some facts related to this scheme in front of everyone.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi tweeted, writing "Pradhan Mantri Jan Dhan Yojana has started 6 years ago, which was aimed at connecting people with the banking system. It proved to be a game-changer, which worked to benefit people in poverty. The future of crores of families has been secured due to the Pradhan Mantri Jan Dhan Yojana. Most of the people are from rural areas and are women. I thank those who have worked for this scheme".
Some facts related to this scheme have also been shared by PM Modi on social media, which shows how widespread this scheme has been. By August 2020, 40.35 crore bank accounts have been opened under this scheme. In the total bank accounts, 55 percent of the accounts are in the names of women, while the remaining 44 percent are in the names of others.
Under the Jan Dhan Yojana, 64 percent of the open bank accounts are in rural areas, while only 36 percent are in urban areas. Account can also be opened in Zero Balance under this scheme. In addition, it has the facility of getting accident insurance (free) and debit card of 2 lakh.
