PM Modi calls External Affairs Minister at midnight, said- 'Are you Wake?...'

New Delhi: External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar, who arrived in the US on a 10-day visit, praised Prime Minister Modi while recalling the evacuation of Indians from Afghanistan. He said that at that time Prime Minister Modi had called at midnight and inquired about the mission. Jaishankar was interacting with Arvind Panagariya, professor at Columbia University and former vice-chairman of NITI Aayog, at the Raj Centre of Columbia University's School of International and Public Affairs.

Recalling India's evacuation attempt from Afghanistan, External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar said, "It was midnight and the Prime Minister called me. His first question was- 'Are you Wake?' I told him that help was on the way. He (Prime Minister) told me to call when the mission is over. This is a remarkable quality.' S Jaishankar said, 'When the Prime Minister called, he said, 'Watching TV.' Then I said yes, I am watching TV. Then he asked what is going on there. I said, 'Attack is going on and help is on the way.' Thereafter, the Prime Minister said, 'Okay, call me when it's over.' Then I said, 'It will take two-three hours, when it is done, I will tell you.' After this, after stopping for some time, he said, 'Call me.'

He said in this book discussion, 'You ask whether PM Modi can bring change, but I say Prime Minister Modi himself is the result of a change and someone like him has become the Prime Minister of India.
