In a phone conversation with his new UK colleague Liz Truss on Saturday, September 10, 2022, Prime Minister Narendra Modi expressed his sincere condolences to the Royal family on the tragic passing of Queen Elizabeth II. The Queen, who ruled the United Kingdom for 70 years, passed away on September 8 at the age of 96.
The progress in implementing the Roadmap 2030, ongoing FTA discussions, defence and security cooperation, and people-to-people links between the two countries were among the topics of discussion, according to Modi's office.
In addition, PM Modi congratulated Truss on taking office as UK prime minister and recognised her prior work as trade secretary and foreign secretary for its positive effects on bilateral relations between India and the UK.
"On behalf of the people of India, Prime Minister Modi conveyed deep condolences to the Royal family and the people of UK on the sad demise of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II," Modi's office said in a statement.
"Both leaders committed to further strengthen the Comprehensive Strategic Partnership between India and UK," the statement added.
