New Delhi: Environmentalist Sunderlal Bahuguna, who played a major role in the Chipko movement, passed away today due to corona infection. He was undergoing treatment in AIIMS since he was infected after which he passed away today. PM Narendra Modi has also condoled his demise.
PM Modi tweeted, "The passing away of Shri Sunderlal Bahuguna ji is a great loss to our country. He revealed our age-old ethos of living in harmony with nature. Their sense of simplicity and compassion will never be forgotten. My thoughts are with his family and many fans. Om Shanti." Sunderlal Bahuguna passed away at the age of 94. He had been admitted to Rishikesh AIIMS since the corona infection. According to information received from the hospital, he breathed his last at 12 noon today.
The infection reportedly caused his oxygen level to decrease drastically, leading to his death. He was admitted to the hospital on May 8. The infection had reached their lungs on May 12. They were constantly put on oxygen support. A team of doctors was engaged in his treatment. Doctors in the cardiology department had conducted several cardiac tests on Tuesday.
