As per the latest trends, PM Narendra Modi is leading by over 20,000 votes from Varanasi in Uttar Pradesh. BJP president Amit Shah is leading by over 130,000 votes from Gujarat's Gandhinagar. This clearly shows that the Modi magic has worked again in UP and the alliance, which is leading on just 18 seats, has not clicked in UP.

People seem to have voted for development and Modi's face for PM rather than caste factors, as per the initial leads. Congress is shown leading only on the Rae Bareli seat so far, showing no citadel is safe amidst the BJP wave in UP.

Counting of votes begins at 8 am today and the Lok Sabha Election results will be declared by evening. However, the trends will be known by afternoon. While in constituencies like Varanasi (Modi), Lucknow (home minister Rajnath Singh), Mainpuri (Mulayam), Rae Bareli (Sonia Gandhi) and Azamgarh (Akhilesh), curiosity will be more about margins, in other seats like Saharanpur and Kanpur, the BJP is locked in a tough contest with the SP-BSP alliance.
