NEW DELHI: The Central government has made a major announcement on Jammu and Kashmir on Monday. The government has repealed Article 35A, which gives special status to the state. Union Home Minister Amit Shah briefed the Upper House on Monday. Simultaneously introduced the recommendation of removing Section 370. Amidst all this, there is news that Prime Minister Narendra Modi is expected to address the countrymen on 7th of August. During the visit, he is also more aware of the decision taken by Jammu and Kashmir.
A major announcement has been made by the central government in the Upper House on Monday over J&K. Amit Shah introduces Jammu and Kashmir reorganisation bill in the Rajya Sabha. Also, he pledged to remove Section 370 from the state. As per the new law, no clause sine will apply to the State except one clause of section 370. The government has removed Article 35A by issuing a gazette notification. President Ram Nath Kovind has approved the removal of Article 35A.
After the government's historic decision, there is a festival like atmosphere among the people of Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh region. J&K has been divided into two parts. Jammu and Kashmir will now be union territory. At the same time, without the Ladakh Assembly, the Centre will become a State Government, where the Lieutenant Governor will rule. Section 370 gives special status to Jammu and Kashmir.
