New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi is scheduled to visit Prayagraj on Tuesday, December 21, at around 1 p.m. to participate in a "one-of-a-kind programme" attended by over 2 lakh women.
According to the Prime Minister's Office (PMO), the programme is being held in order to empower women, particularly at the grassroots level, by providing them with the necessary skills, incentives, and resources. "In this effort to support women, the Prime Minister will transfer Rs. 1000 crore into the bank accounts of Self Help Groups (SHGs), benefiting approximately 16 lakh women members of the SHGs," the PMO stated.
"This transfer is being carried out under the Deendayal Antyodaya Yojana - National Rural Livelihood Mission (DAY-NRLM), with 80,000 SHGs receiving a Community Investment Fund (CIF) of Rs. 1.10 lakh per SHG and 60,000 SHGs receiving a Revolving Fund of Rs 15000 per SHG," they added.
According to the PMO, it is known that the program will also witness the Prime Minister encouraging Business Correspondent-Sakhis (BC-Sakhis), by transferring Rs 4000 as the first month's stipend into the accounts of 20,000 BC-Sakhis. When BC-Sakhis begin working as doorstep financial service providers at the grassroots level, they are paid a stipend of Rs 4000 for six months to help them stabilise their work before earning commission on transactions. The PMO said, PM Modi will also transfer over Rs 20 crore to over 1 lakh beneficiaries under the Mukhya Mantri Kanya Sumangala Scheme during the programme.
