The Congress and BJP have started a blame game regarding the Nirav Modi fraud case. Congress accused Modi of helping Nirav Modi, referring to him as “Chhota Modi”. Nirmala Sitharaman accused Congress of participation in the scam and said that it happened when UPA was in power.

Nirmala Sitharaman interacted with media in Shillong. She said, “This happened in their tenure. The allegations are coming out now. This is coming out as it is their (UPA's) gift. We will definitely take action. This has not happened in (20)14.”

Congress has hit back with a list of questions to PM Modi concerning PNB fraud. Randeep Surjewala, a Congress leader, spoke to the media at a press conference in New Delhi. They have asked these questions to the Prime Minister:

  1. Who is responsible for the scam by Nirav Modi?
  2. Were all the departments under Modi government asleep, and why?
  3. Punjab National Bank chief told the Government that Nirav Modi would flee, how did he escape even then?
  4. How did the government not notice the largest banking scam?
  5. Who has given security to this scam?

Surjewala told that Modi needs to answer these questions. He also claimed Nirav Modi to be a part of the official Indian delegation at Davos, however, these claims were discarded by Ravi Shankar Prasad.
