New Delhi: The sister and brother-in-law of Nirav Modi, the fugitive diamond trader, who fled the country after cheating PMC bank, has been allowed by the Mumbai-based PMLA (Prevention of Money Laundering Act) court to become a promised pardon witness. These two have been made co-accused in two cases by the Enforcement Directorate. Nirav Modi's sister Eastern and brother-in-law Mayank Mehta had applied for forgiveness in the court. It also said that if their application is approved by the court, then they are ready to provide important evidence against Nirav Modi.

According to sources, the application was filed last month, which was accepted by the court after the ED did not object. It was said on behalf of the ED that he had no objection to East and Mayank becoming promising witnesses. However, the firms and trusts owned by these two or the trusts of which they are part will continue to be charged in the case. East and Mayank will be pardoned on an individual basis and both of them will be considered as pardoned witnesses.

In April 2018, the media talked to Mayank's home in Hong Kong. Also told how the family has been affected badly after the scandal related to Nirav Modi came to light. Mayank then said that "We could not even imagine that Nirav Modi could be associated with such a scam." We ourselves are trying to understand the whole issue. ''
