Beijing: 16 people have died on Sunday due to poisonous gas in a Chinese mine.  According to information received, 16 people lost their lives due to the high level of carbon monoxide on Sunday in a coal mine in south-western China. The Chongching Municipal administration posted on social media saying a total of 17 people were trapped in the mine. Only one person has survived the incident which has been admitted to the hospital. The rest of the people could not be saved even after all the efforts.

The level of gas was increased by burning the belt: Junha has revealed that the burning of a conveyor belt in the mine had greatly increased the level of carbon monoxide gas. However, it was not clear in the news as to what the belt was made of. It is also being said that rubber belts are also used to flush out coal from the underground coal mine. The news quoted the district administration as saying that the mine located in Kijiang District is affiliated to the local energy company. This kind of an incident always takes place in China, and the safety record in the mines is very bad.

Such incidents are common in Chinese mines: According to information received, 14 workers were killed in a blast due to coal and gas at a Chinese mine in December last year. The incident was in south-western Guiju province. In the past, in December 2018, 7 labourers were killed due to the fall of shaft in a quarry in Chongching. In October 2018, 21 labourers were killed in a quarry in Shandong state. Only one labourer survived the incident. In this way, such incidents occur frequently in Chinese mines, and the labourers have to lose their lives due to lack of proper security arrangements.
