Chandigarh: Amritpal Singh, the president of pro-Khalistani organization Waris Punjab De, has finally been caught by the police. Uttarakhand's Udham Singh Nagar Police, which was searching for Amritpal for 32 days in the district and the border area on the Uttar Pradesh border, heaved a sigh of relief when it was informed about his arrest in Punjab.

However, in view of the sensitivity of the matter, after the arrest of Amritpal, vigil has been increased at the religious places and Uttarakhand-UP border. There was a possibility of Amritpal fleeing to Nepal via USnagar. Based on the inputs, an alert was also issued on the Uttarakhand Nepal international border. After the arrest of Amritpal Singh, the US Nagar police has now stopped the investigation in the case. Waris Punjab De Pramukh Amritpal first came into the limelight on 23 February.

He attacked the Ajnala police station in Punjab with hundreds of supporters to free his close friend. Six policemen were injured in the attack. After this he had openly supported Khalistan in the interviews given in several TV channels and incited the Sikh brothers. After this the police and intelligence agencies were on the lookout for him.
