Kolkata: Trinamool Congress (TMC) Lok Sabha MP and CM Mamata Banerjee's nephew Abhishek Banerjee has got relief from the Supreme Court in the West Bengal teacher recruitment scam. Now, ED or CBI cannot interrogate Abhishek Banerjee regarding the letter of TMC's arrested leader Kuntal Ghosh in this case. In this regard, Justice Abhijit Gangopadhyay of the Calcutta High Court had given permission to the Central Investigation Agency to inquire. On which the Supreme Court again imposed an interim stay.
Let us tell you that, the expelled Trinamool youth leader Kuntal Ghosh, accused in the teacher recruitment scam, had alleged that the central investigators were "pressurizing" him to name Abhishek. Apart from sending a letter to the court in this regard, Kuntal Ghosh has also given a complaint against the central agency at the Hastings police station. Abhishek Banerjee had given a similar statement in the Shaheed Minar Sabha a day before Kuntal Ghosh's speech. He had said that TMC spokesperson Kunal Ghosh and TMC MLA Madan Mitra were also pressurized to take his name. Regarding both these incidents, Justice Gangopadhyay had said in his comments that, if necessary, CBI and ED can also interrogate Abhishek in Kuntal Ghosh's letter case.
After which CM Mamta's nephew Abhishek went to the apex court to challenge it. This matter came up for the second time on Monday in the bench of Supreme Court Chief Justice (CJI) DY Chandrachud. Earlier on Monday, on the orders of Justice Gangopadhyay, the apex court had stayed the questioning of Abhishek for a week. The next hearing of the case was fixed for this Monday, 24 April.
