Sharjeel's father Akbar Imam, a native of Jehanabad in Bihar, was a leader of the ruling Janata Dal United and his brother is believed to be close to former MP Arun Kumar from Jehanabad. After this, FIRs were registered against him in Aligarh and Assam in several serious charges including sedition and spreading disharmony on the basis of religion. At present, he has gone underground and the police are continuously raiding to arrest him. His last location was found in Patna.
