Asian champions Pooja Rani (75 kg) and Vikas Krishna (69 kg) not only clinched medals as they reached the semi-finals of the Asian Olympic qualifiers but also took a ticket to Tokyo. Fourth seed Pooja first landed in the ring, defeating Thailand's 18-year-old Pornipa Chutei unilaterally 5–0. This 29-year-old boxer from Haryana's Bhiwani became the first Indian boxer to qualify for the Olympics. Pooja will now face the reigning world and Asian champion Li Qian of China.
