In Punjab, the Indian Farmers Union (Lakhowal) has demanded the state government to allow farmers and laborers to work in the fields, amid the prevailing curfew situation. Union General Secretary Harinder Singh Lakhowal said on Wednesday that at present, the crops of potato peas and other vegetables are ready in the fields, but the work of handling and transporting them to the cold store has stopped.

Regarding this matter, he said that due to the curfew, besides the farmers, the farm laborers are also not able to reach the fields and the risk of spoiling these crops has increased. He said that from these crops, seed is also prepared for the next year and it has become very important to deliver it to the cold store on time. I said that the season of these cash crops is till 31 March and thousands of tons of potatoes, peas, tomatoes and other vegetables have been piled up in the fields.

For your information, let us tell you that it may take 1 month to handle them, but if the labor is not received on time, then these crops will be spoiled in the fields. He also said that the wheat season is going to start from April 10 and before that it is necessary to prepare the fields. Minor people said that the administration has also closed cold stores. He urged the administration to open cold stores so that the farmers could store their crops and seeds. He expressed concern that if the current crop of potato is not handled, it will be completely spoiled and seeds will not be available for the next year.
