Islamabad: Bilawal Bhutto-Zardari, the chairman of the Pakistan People's Party (PPP), was sworn in as Pakistan's foreign minister on Wednesday in the government led byf Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif.

At a brief ceremony at the Aiwan-i-Sadr (President's House), President Arif Alvi gave the oath to Bilawal, who is 33 years old. Prime Minister Sharif was also present.

Bilawal took the oath nearly a week after meeting Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) supremo Nawaz Sharif in London last week, during which they reviewed Pakistan's "overall political situation" and pledged to collaborate on political and national-interest matters.

The Pakistan People's Party is the second-largest party in Prime Minister Sharif's current coalition government, which was formed on April 11.

Bilawal, the son of former two-time prime minister Benazir Bhutto and former president Asif Ali Zardari, was conspicuously absent from the first phase of Cabinet formation last week, raising many concerns.
