Emerging spinner Prabath Jayasuriya had a remarkable performance with the ball during the second Test against New Zealand at Galle International Stadium, achieving a stunning five-wicket haul. The left-arm spinner expertly broke down the visitors' batting lineup, marking another impressive fifer in his career.

In the second Test match at Galle, Sri Lankan spinner Prabath Jayasuriya outperformed New Zealand's legendary batter Kane Williamson, who struggled to score just seven runs off 53 balls. New Zealand faced a tough challenge, being bowled out for a mere 88 runs and falling behind by a staggering 514 runs in the first innings.

Williamson, attempting to stabilize the innings alongside night watchman Ajaz Patel, was dismissed in the 17th over. Jayasuriya struck first for the hosts on Day 3, delivering a well-pitched ball that turned away after landing near the off stump. Williamson attempted to defend with a front-foot block, but the ball edged to Dhananjaya de Silva at first slip, resulting in a simple catch.

In his seventh over, Jayasuriya cleverly mixed up his deliveries, pushing Williamson onto the back foot before delivering a fuller ball. The batter managed to push two previous balls towards mid-on and cover, but he could not outsmart Jayasuriya, who ultimately got him out. Following Williamson's wicket, New Zealand found themselves in a precarious position at 24-3.

The New Zealand batting lineup appeared to give in, collapsing for just 88 runs in only 39 overs. All-rounder Mitchell Santner was the standout performer for the Kiwis, scoring 29 runs off 51 balls.

Sri Lanka opted for a follow-on after New Zealand lost eight wickets in the first session of Day 3. Jayasuriya showcased his exceptional spin bowling skills, finishing with impressive figures of 6 wickets for 42 runs in 18 overs. The seasoned left-arm off-spinner relied on traditional bowling techniques to dismantle the New Zealand batting order.

Earlier, Sri Lanka had a commanding first innings, batting for nearly two days and 163 overs before declaring at 602-5. Dinesh Chandimal celebrated his 15th Test century, while Kamindu Mendis shone with an unbeaten 182, becoming one of the fastest players to reach 1,000 Test runs. Kusal Mendis also contributed with his ninth Test century.
