Jammu: After the removal of Article 370, the people deprived of many schemes of the Center in Jammu and Kashmir are now getting direct benefits. The health sector of the valley was running at the slowest pace in implementing these schemes. After the declaration of Jammu and Kashmir as a Union Territory on August 5, the project of opening the Prime Minister's Jan Aushadhi Kendra, which had reached the verge of closure in its early stages due to non-availability of generic medicines, has now suddenly caught the pace.

After the launch of the scheme at Jammu Government Medical College Hospital (GMC), Jammu's SGMC Hospital, Sarwal Hospital and Gandhi Nagar Hospital have opened centers to provide generic medicines to people at low prices. The Pradhan Mantri Jan Aushadhi Kendra was opened on 28 August in the hospital of Gandhinagar, an area considered as Connaught Place in Jammu.

All 22 district hospitals and sub-district hospitals in the state, including Kargil and Leh in Ladakh, and the Pradhan Mantri Jan Aushadhi Kendra are being opened in CHS Health Centro. In these centers, 125 to 800 types of generic medicines for gastric, blood pressure, sugar, antibiotics and heart patients are being made available at cheap prices.
