New Delhi: Union Environment Minister Prakash Javadekar on Tuesday addressed the United Nations Security Council (UNSC) in Sanskrit for the first time during the debate on climate change. He began his discussion with other speakers with the Shukla of Yajurveda. Javadekar, during his statement, while uttering the mantra of Yajurveda, said, "Om dyauh shanti rantariksham shanti. Prithvi shantirapah shanti. Oshadhayah shanti. Vanaspatayah shanti. Vishvedevaah shanti Brahma shanti. Sarvam shanti Shantireva shanti. Saamaa shantiredhih. Om shaanti, shaanti, shaanti!"

In this Shanti mantra of Yajurveda, all the elements and factors of the creation pray for peace. It means, 'peace in space, peace on earth, peace in water, peace in medicine, peace in flora, peace in the world, peace in all gods, peace in Brahman, peace in all, peace around, peace be upon you, peace be upon you. '

Prakash Javadekar at UNSC said that there is no widely accepted methodology to find out the link between climate change, conflict and weakness. He stated, "Weakness and climate impact are much more context-specific when it comes to data availability and impact measurement." He said, "The idea of climate action should not remove the target of climate ambition even after 2050. All countries should fulfil their promises before 2020."
