ITANAGAR: India President Droupadi Murmu said on Tuesday that the "Sun of development is shining in Arunachal Pradesh" and that the state has the potential to "become an attractive investment destination" and a centre of trade and business" because of its wealth of natural resources and top-notch human capabilities.

Addressing a special session of the Legislative Assembly of Arunachal Pradesh in Itaganar, the President stated that Arunachal Pradesh is a significant component of the nation and a "key stakeholder in India's Act East Policy"

The Northeastern Region  has long been denied the advantages of economic development because of poor road, rail, and air connectivity. Nonetheless, she continued, "the Northeast's connectivity and development are receiving high emphasis from the Union Government, she said. Environmental pollution and climate change are urgent issues in the modern world "We need to address these challenges as soon as possible. For a state like Arunachal Pradesh, which is geographically delicate, these issues take on greater significance."

She was happy to note that the policymakers of this state have taken care of this issue. She said that Arunachal Pradesh had decided to use the Pakke Declaration as a way to demonstrate its commitment to combating climate change, and she hoped that other states would follow suit.

In her speech, Murmu also recalled that the North East Frontier Agency's (NEFA) Panchayat Raj Regulation at the rural level laid the groundwork for contemporary democracy in Arunachal Pradesh in 1967. She said, "In a series of events that followed, Pradesh Council was transformed into Interim Legislative Assembly of Union Territory on August 15, 1975.

"It's a source of joy that Sibo Kai was proposed as the first female member of that first Legislative Assembly, the President stated. When Arunachal Pradesh was given full sovereignty on February 20, 1987, there were initially 33 members, but that number rose to 60 "stated the President.

From this small beginning to the present, the President said the state's legislative assembly has covered a long journey. "For this, I congratulate all the past and current members," President said. She also said that the legislative system is characterised by order and decorum "We must guarantee that the debate meets the greatest standards for both its quality and content. Convergence needs to be reached on development and public welfare issues at the same time."
