President honours IPS officer Aparna Kumar with Tenzing Norgay National Adventure Award 2018

New Delhi: Aparna Kumar, a 2002 batch Uttar Pradesh Cadre IPS officer, who is currently posted as DIG, Indo Tibetan Police Force at Dehradun, has been selected for the Tenzing Norgay National Adventure Award 2018.  The President gave this honour to him on the occasion of Sports Day. She was felicitated at a function held at Rashtrapati Bhavan on Thursday. Her husband Sanjay Kumar, who is the Mandal commissioner of Saharanpur, was also present. Currently, she is serving as DIG in ITBP and is posted in Dehradun.

When she was honoured on Thursday, Mandal Commissioner Sanjay Kumar was also present. IPS Aparna Kumar started mountaineering in 2013 when her daughter was just six years old. Despite this, he stepped up to mountaineering and hoisted the tricolour on the highest mountain peaks, crossing every difficulty.

She has hoisted the tricolour to the world's most difficult and highest peaks. She has hoisted the tricolour on six continent's highest peaks, apart from Asia's highest mountain peaks. Besides, she is the first woman IPS officer to hoist the tricolour on the highest mountain peak of the South Pole. She has also been the winner of the Uttar Pradesh Rani Laxmibai Bravery Award 2015 and Uttar Pradesh Yash Bharati Award 2016.
