New Delhi:- London-based Pretiosum Ventures has achieved the first close of a possible second fund of $20 million.

Founded in London in 2019 by Yana Abramova, GP personal fund invests in "infrastructure" startups (SaaS, Fintech and Web3 companies). Pretiosum (a witty variation of the Latin phrase "pretiōsus" meaning "precious") typically writes checks between $250,000 and $500,000 in a "tracked" fashion.

Abramova is a member of the alumni council of the Judge Business School at the University of Cambridge and formerly an ambassador for Tech Nation (recently acquired by Founders Forum).

As one of the very few female GPs in Europe, Abramova backs startups at the pre-seed, seed and sometimes Series A stages. To date, Pretiosum has co-invested in startups along with Cherry Ventures, Greycroft, Seedcamp, IQ Capital and Y Combinator.

I have noted that a new wave of solo GP VCs is coming to Europe, although we think it could be difficult there, especially in the US.

This trend has only just begun in Europe and I highly doubt it will stop just because we are in a new bearish cycle.

As I wrote in June, this VC model arrived in Europe quite late to become a more viable route for many European startups.

We have seen the launch of Underline Ventures, started by Bogdan Iordache last year in Romania, as well as the launch of Hypernova, a $25 million fund that plans to invest not only in other funds but directly into startups.
