New Delhi [India], Jan 29 (NT): : on his address over the commencement of budget session 2018 President Ram Nath Kovind said on Monday said that more than 1,300 women are going on Hajj pilgrimage without a Mahram (male guardian) this year after the Centre plagiarized the restriction.

"For the first time since independence, the restriction on women above 45 years of age to perform Hajj pilgrimage unaccompanied by their male relatives has been removed. This year, more than 1,300 women are going on Haj pilgrimage without Mehram,"  Prez Kovind said while addressing at the opening of the Budget Session 2018.

To put this on practice, a bilateral MoU was signed between India and Saudi Arabia in relation with Hajj 2018.

For the upliftment of Muslim women, the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) is also approaching all the political parties for the passage of Muslim Women's (Protection of Rights on Marriage) Bill that put legal obstacles over the practice of triple talaq.

President Kovind also hoped for the bill to get passed in the Parliament as it received the Rajya Sabha's up and down move in the last session.(NT)
