In a shocking act of self-mutilation, a prisoner in Spain cut off his penis allegedly after his wife refused to see him for a conjugal visit. The incident took place at the Puerto III prison in Puerto de Santa Maria in south-west Spain on Christmas Eve. 

According to a UK newspaper, The prisoner in question was informed that his wife has refused to see him in a conjugal visit (a period wherein a jail inmate is allowed to spend time in private with a visitor for engaging in sexual activity) . He was upset after learning that his spouse has refused a conjugal visit to the jail. This prompted him to hack off his genitals.

Jail staff found the unnamed prisoner bleeding, after which he was rushed to the health centre of the jail for administering medical care. The medics saved his life, but it is not clear if they were able to reattach the amputated sex organ. Local reports claim the man has mental health issues.
