BHOPAL: In her address at the public rally in Gwalior, Congress General Secretary Priyanka Gandhi criticized Prime Minister Narendra Modi for his silence on the Manipur violence, which persisted for 77 days. She pointed out that while Modi was quick to label Opposition leaders as 'thieves', he failed to show the same urgency in addressing the alarming situation unfolding in Manipur.
Finally, after 77 days, Modi broke his silence on the Manipur violence, but even then, he couldn't resist intertwining politics into the matter. Priyanka remarked that he promptly accused all Opposition party leaders of being thieves, yet he remained silent on Manipur for an extended period. Even when he eventually spoke about Manipur, he used the opportunity to make political references, targeting states ruled by the opposition.
Gwalior, the bastion of Union Minister Jyotiraditya Scindia, witnessed Priyanka Gandhi's first public rally. It was Scindia's move to the BJP that led to the downfall of the Congress government in Madhya Pradesh in March 2020. During the rally, Priyanka urged the people to vote for a Congress government that could govern for five years.
Bringing attention to the Gwalior-Chambal region in Madhya Pradesh, which contributes significantly to the defense personnel, Priyanka highlighted the Agniveer Scheme. She also accused the Shivraj Singh Chouhan government of being involved in a recruitment exam scam for Patwari positions.
Reiterating Congress's five guarantees for the states, Priyanka requested the state party chief Kamal Nath to prioritize increasing the monthly disabled pension to Rs 600 if the party is re-elected to power in the state.
Taking a swipe at the BJP government, Priyanka stated that corruption had infiltrated every level, even affecting the revered Mahakal Lok of Ujjain. She urged the people to carefully consider their choices and decide whether they want to hand over power to corrupt individuals or entrust it to someone with a genuine vision for the betterment of Madhya Pradesh.
