Puducherry: 53 new cases of coronavirus infection have been registered in the last 24 hours till 10 am on Saturday in the Union Territory of Puducherry, taking the total cases to 1,27,674. There are currently 457 active cases of Covid-19 in the state. Two more patients from Puducherry died of the epidemic, taking the death toll to 1,855.

Health Department Director G Sriramulu said 48 people have recovered in the last day. A total of 1,25,362 people have recovered since suffering from coronavirus so far. In India, the death toll due to the loss of lives of 666 patients from Covid-19 today has reached 4,53,708. While active cases have come down to 1,73,728, the lowest in 233 days. According to the Union Health Ministry's updated data by 8 am on Saturday, 16,326 new cases a day of infection have taken the total number of epidemic cases to 3,41,59,56.

Officials said Kerala has matched the figure of 292 deaths from the previous period on Saturday, so the death toll is high. In Kerala, 99 patients have lost their lives in the last 24 hours. The ministry reported that new cases of coronavirus every day are less than 30,000 for the 29th consecutive day and are now less than 50,000 for the 118th consecutive day.
