Chandigarh: In the midst of the farmer agitation in Delhi against the new agricultural laws brought by the central government, a farmer in Punjab destroyed his potato crop by trampling it in the field. The farmer said that he was not getting the right price for the potato. Therefore, he had no choice but to destroy the crop.
According to the information, Jaskirat Singh, a young farmer of Kapurthala, destroyed the potato crop in his 11-acre field by driving a tractor. Jaskirat says that the prices of potatoes have dropped significantly in the market. There is not even a fair price for potatoes. It was better to destroy the potato in the field itself, by selling it in the market and taking the loss, so that another crop can be sown.
The potato cultivation is done on a large scale in Punjab's Doab, especially Kapurthala and Jalandhar. These days the potato produce of farmers is ready, yet their faces are sad. The reason for this is that they are not getting customers who buy potatoes. The customers who are coming, they are putting the price of potato so low that it cannot even meet their expenses.
