Chandigarh: BJP leader Balwinder Gill was attacked late on Sunday night (April 16) in Pt. Jab's Amritsar. The assailants shot him outside his house. After which Balwinder Gill has been admitted to the hospital in critical condition. He is undergoing treatment under the supervision of doctors. BJP Scheduled Caste (SC) Morcha general secretary Gill Jandiala was at his residence in Guru Ke Jyotisar when two bike-borne assailants came and opened fire on him. He was taken to the local KD Hospital, where he is undergoing treatment.
As per reports, the incident took place around 9 p.m. on Sunday night. Balwinder Singh was present at his house in the Jyotisar area when two masked youths came on a bike. The accused called the daughter and asked her to call her father. When the daughter called Balwinder Singh, he came out. As soon as he came out, the bike riders fired at him. Gill was very busy with the Jalandhar Lok Sabha by-election at this time. According to sources, he had recently returned from Jalandhar, where he was campaigning with veteran leader Kewal Kumar. Kumar dropped Gill outside his house in Amritsar and then left.
Regarding the attack on the BJP leader, SSP Satendra Singh of Amritsar Rural has informed that around 9 o'clock the bullet was fired. The bullet had hit Gill in the face. A search operation has been started to arrest the miscreants. The police are scanning CCTV footage to identify them.
