Amritsar: Punjab CM and Congress leader Amarinder Singh has protested against the proposal to remove Section 370 of the Constitution granting special status to Jammu and Kashmir. Reacting to the whole episode, Amarinder Singh said that the Constitution has been rewritten without any legal provision. Such historic decisions should not be taken arbitrarily in this manner.
On the other hand, SP leader Ram Gopal Yadav said in the Upper House, "If you want to remove Section 370, all you should have done is, why did you change the state and declare it as Union Territory?" Should you, at least, take the people of the State into confidence? NCP chief Sharad Pawar, in a statement on the Centre's proposal, said, "I think the Central Government should have taken the first leaders of Kashmir into confidence, but unfortunately the Government did not do so and then the Government should have decided to remove section 370."
Earlier, Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Monday moved a motion in the Upper House to remove Section 370 of the Constitution granting special status to Jammu and Kashmir, saying that the state will now be divided into two Union Territories - Ladakh and Jammu and Kashmir. There will be an assembly in Jammu and Kashmir, but there will be no assembly in Ladakh. The uproar broke out in the Rajya Sabha after the historic announcement.
