Varanasi: On the occasion of Ravidas Jayanti, Punjab Chief Minister Charanjit Singh Channi paid prayers at the Ravidas Temple in Varanasi on Wednesday. The chief minister arrived at the temple early in the morning and listened to devotional songs for around 45 minutes. He interacted with other devotees as well.

Yogi Adityanath, the Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh, will also visit Varanasi to offer prayers. Later in the day, Congress MP Rahul Gandhi and the party's General Secretary Priyanka Gandhi Vadra will pay a visit to the Ravidas Temple in Varanasi to commemorate Sant Guru Ravidas' birth anniversary.

The Punjab Assembly elections had been postponed by the Election Commission of India (ECI) due to Guru Ravidas' birth anniversary. The state, which was originally set to hold elections on February 14, will now hold elections on February 20.

During the 15th and 16th centuries, Sant Ravidas was a member of the 'bhakti' movement, and his songs are incorporated in the Guru Granth Sahib. He is regarded as the founder of the Ravidassia religion of the twenty-first century. Ravidas Jayanti is observed on Magh Purnima, which is the Hindu calendar's full moon day in the Magh month.
